Installment Buying
People began buying items and then paying in installments during the 1920s. This boosted consumption because people were buying more, but making payments instead of buying it all at once. In addition it helped many people improve their credit. The problem was Americans were buying on credit at a faster pace than their incomes increased. This ultimately led to an increase in consumer debt.
