One of the most popular types of music during the 1920s was Jazz and Blues. Many African Americans performed Jazz and Blues throughout the country. Some of the most famous musicians during the 1920s include Louis Armstrong, Edward "Duke" Ellington, and Bessie Smith. Louis Armstrong was a jazz artist known for playing the trumpet and cornet. Louis became the first exceptional solo trumpet and cornet player. He won many Grammys for his popular songs. Edward "Duke" Ellington was a musician who created his own type of music that was somewhat similar to jazz and ragtime. In addition he wrote He composed about 6,000 music pieces. Ellington and his band won many Grammys for jazz music. Bessie Smith was a popular soul and blues singer. During her career she even got to work with Louis Armstrong. She has been inducted in many musical hall of fames such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Cotton Club was the most popular night club in Harlem. Many African Americans started performing at the Cotton Club.
